Superlative

เป็นการเปรียบเทียบสิ่งของตั้งแต่ 3 สิ่งขึ้นไป หรือในหมวดหมู่เดียวกันทั้งหมด ว่าสิ่งนั้นดีหรือมากที่สุดแล้ว

โครงสร้างประโยค

S + V. to be + the + Superlative adj.

ตัวอย่าง

Reading is the least interesting hobby for me.

(การอ่านหนังสือเป็นงานอดิเรกที่น่าสนใจน้อยที่สุดสำหรับฉัน)

การเปลี่ยน Adjective

เป็น Superlative Adjective

• ในการนำคำคุณศัพท์ (adj.) มาเปลี่ยนให้เป็นคำคุณศัพท์เปรียบเทียบขั้นกว่า (comparative adj.) มีหลักการเปลี่ยนอยู่ 3 แบบด้วยกัน คือ

1. the + adj. + -est.

• ส่วนใหญ่มักใช้กับคำคุณศัพท์ที่มีความยาว 1-2 พยางค์ เช่น

• great - the greatest (ยิ่งใหญ่ที่สุด)

• tall - the tallest (สูงที่สุด)

• strong - the strongest (แข็งแรงที่สุด)

คำที่ลงท้ายด้วย y

• หากคำคุณศัพท์ลงท้ายด้วย y จะต้องเปลี่ยน y เป็น i แล้วเติม est เข้าไป อย่างเช่น

• pretty => the prettiest (น่ารักที่สุด)

• lazy => the laziest (ขี้เกียจที่สุด) 

• dirty => the dirtiest (สกปรกที่สุด)

พิเศษ

• คำ adverb ที่ลงท้ายด้วย ly ให้ เติม the most เช่น

• slowly - the most slowly

• quickly. - the most quickly

• badly - the most badly

2. the + most + adj.

• วิธีนี้มักใช้กับคำคุณศัพท์ที่มีความยาว 3 พยางย์ขึ้นไป เช่น

• expensive - the most expensive (แพงที่สุด)

• Important - the most important (สำคัญที่สุด)

• beautiful - the most beautiful. (สวยที่สุด)

3. เปลี่ยนรูปแบบพิเศษ

• คำคุณศัพท์บางคำจะเปลี่ยนรูปไปโดยสิ้นเชิง ซึ่งต้องอาศัยวิธีการท่องจำ เช่น

• good - the best

• bad - the worst

• little - the least

• much - the most

• far -farthest, furthest

พิเศษ

• คำ adjective สองพยางค์ที่ลงท้ายด้วย –ed  ing  ful  less เมื่อต้องการเปลี่ยนรูปเป็นขั้น comparativeให้ใช้ more และขั้น superlative ให้ใช้ the most เช่น
