Poll
When you listen to music, what do you use?
Online service: e.g.
Spotify, YouTube, Amazon, Apple
Music you own. e.g
CD's, Records, Music you have downloaded
Radio
Don't listen to music
10
Before the internet (was fast)
Unless you listened to radio.
We would have to buy the music physically...
...from a physical shop...
...physically store the CD's, tapes or records somewhere at home....
...physically carry them with you if you wanted to listen to them when out and about!
11
Surprisingly...there are advantages to this.
You own the music - you don't have to buy it again.
You just need the music and something to play it on.
You control how it is looked after.
12
But the drawbacks are:
You can only listen to what you own / borrow from a friend
You have to store all the music somewhere (need physical space)
If you don't have the music with you, you can't listen to it easily
If something happens to your music (house fire etc). You will lose everything you own.

- Access to all content anywhere at any time
- No need to store anything
- Content you might like will be suggested for you.

Cloud computing
Because of cloud computing, as long as we have a good internet connection. The storage, processing, backup and security of data is held by a powerful computer somewhere else on the internet. This is controlled by the company whose services you are using.
If we didn't use cloud computing we would have to provide it ourselves. This gives us more control, but is more expensive.
...think about the music example. Spotify is £10 a month for millions of hours of content. A CD is about £10 with 12 songs.
