THIS LESSON

Expanding triple brackets.

For example, Expand (x-3)(x-2)(2x-1)

It is the same process of expanding double brackets, and then muliplying your answer by the third bracket.

Please watch the video on the next slide.

Question image

Do you remember how to solve this by factorising?

Yes, I think I do. I am going to try the question in my book now and check it on the next slide

No I don't remember, or I have not done this before. I am going to write down this question and look how to do it on the next slide.

23

Poll

Did the example look familar now?

YES! I remember what to do now I can move straight on to answering some questions

No, I am still not sure. I am going to watch the video on the next slide and write examples in my book.

24

25

32

Multiple Choice

Solve the following quadratic...

x2 + 5x + 6 = 0

1

x = -2, -3

2

x = 1, 6

3

x = -1, -6

4

x = 2, 3

33

Another method..

We can also solve quadratic equations using the formula in the red box (which is given to you in the exam).

This method involves you typing the sum into your calculator twice to find the two solutions.

If this is new or you would like a reminder, please look at my example of the next slide.

35

Multiple Choice

Determine the values of a, b, and c for the quadratic equation:

4x2 – 8x = 3

1

a = 4, b = -8, c = 3

2

a = 4, b =-8, c =-3

3

a = 4, b = 8, c = 3

4

a = 4, b = 8, c = -3

36

Multiple Choice

Solve using the Quadratic Formula

4v2 - 1v - 18 = 0

1

v = 2.25, -2

2

v = -2.25, 2

3

v = 2.24, -1.99

4

v = -2.24, 1.99

37

Multiple Choice

2x2-x -3=0
1
x=-3/2  x=1
2
x= 3/2 x= -1
3
x= -3/2 x= -1
4
x= 3/2 x= 1

38

Multiple Choice

Determine the values of a, b, and c for the quadratic equation:

4x2 – 8x = 3

1

a = 4, b = -8, c = 3

2

a = 4, b =-8, c =-3

3

a = 4, b = 8, c = 3

4

a = 4, b = 8, c = -3

39

Multiple Choice

Solve using the Quadratic Formula (HINT YOU HAVE TO REARRANGE IT FIRST SO IT =0)

6p2 = 2p + 60

1

p = 3.33, -2

2

p = -3.33, 2

3

p = -5.98, 6.65

4

p = 5.98, -6.65

40

Time to practice everything we have learnt/revised today.

I have created a mixture of questions on dr frost for you to practice please do that now.
