Who were the first Americans?

The first Americans are also known as the Native Americans. They lived in groups called tribes. A tribe is a group of people who speak the same language and have the same beliefs. Tribes traveled by foot across the bridge of land between North and South America. They followed the animals that they hunted for food.

Contributions

The first Americans are important to our history and have made many contributions to the United States. Did you know that Native Americans helped create our roads and railroads? Native American words like skunk and hurricane have been included in the English language too. Not only did they contribute to our language but also our farming. Just like the First Americans we still eat corn and squash!
