The writer's view

• Writers don't always tell everything directly but they sometimes show instead.

• Writers express the view of the heroes through actions and words.

Activity

Read the story of Beowulf again and discuss how the writer has used actions and words to express their view of the hero.

Compare Beowulf characteristics as a hero to a modern day hero you know. Do you think modern day heroes are different from ancient heroes? Discuss.
