Read quickly to get the general idea of a passage.

How to skim?

• Read the title. Ex: "Climate change 'already affecting food supply'"

• Read the subtitle or the introduction

• Notice any image/chart

• Read the summary or last paragraph

Scanning

Search for specific information

Scan the image and find the pumpkin and two carrots!

Scanning - Get only what you need

• Search for key words

• Move quickly over the page

• Less reading and more searching
