What are some causes and effects of Natural Disasters?

  • Tornados caused when warm, moist air meets cold dry air -> can create 300mph winds that damage and destroy

  • Hurricanes caused by warm air over tropical oceans rising, condensing, and warming the air even more -> damage property and threaten lives

  • Thunderstorms: sudden, powerful events caused by convection in the atmosphere -> makes outside dangerous

  • Droughts caused by lack of precipitation in an area over an extended period of time -> water restrictions, economic losses, etc.

8

Ways humans help

  • Humans have improved the construction of buildings and structures that can withstand extreme temperatures, large amounts of rain, high winds, and electrical current from lightning.
