Past Simple
We use the past simple to describe actions that happened in the past.

Positive Form
Subject + Verb+ d/ed/ied / irregular verb+ rest of sentence.
Examples:
-The man fixed his car yesterday.
-They moved to another country.

Spelling Rules - Regular Verbs
1. Adding 'ed' to the verb:
We usually add 'ed' to the verb
Examples:
talk ===> talked
play ===> played

2. Adding 'd': When the verb ends in 'e' , we add only 'd' to the verb.
Examples:
bake ==> baked
practice ==> practiced

3. Adding 'ied' to the verb:
When the verb ends in 'y' and before it consonant letter, we change the 'y' to 'i' and add 'ed'.
Examples:
study ==> studied
carry ==> carried
*Note: when the verb ends in 'y' and before it a vowel letter (a,e,i,u,o) we add 'ed'.
Example :
stay ==> stayed

4.Double tha last letter and adding 'ed': When the verb is one syllable and ends in CONSONANT-VOWEL-CONSONANT (CVC), we double the last letter and add 'ed'.
Example :
stop ==> stopped
*Note: We never double the letters w,y and x.
Example:
fix ==> fixed

Irregular Verbs
Subject + Irregular verb + rest of sentence.
Irregular verbs don't take 'ed' in the past form. These must be learned by heart.

eat ==> ate

Yesterday, last week/ Monday/ month, a month/ year/week ago, in 1995.
Example
