may, might, can and could

Helping Verb

• helping verb is a verb that comes before a main verb and tells more about the action

• modal auxillary is a helping verb that shows how things could or should

may and might

• may and might show that the action could take place but most likely won't

• Example: There may be another chance of a snow day.

• may shows that a snow day could come

can and could

• can: shows that it is possible the action will take place

• could: shows that it is unknown how likely or unlikely that something may happen
