2

Look at some examples:

  •  12+13=\frac{1}{2}+\frac{1}{3}=

  •  1614=\frac{1}{6}-\frac{1}{4}=

  •  18+17=\frac{1}{8}+\frac{1}{7}=

3

There are 2 basic steps

for solving dissimilar fraction

4

CHANGE ALL UNLIKE FRACTIONS INTO LIKE FRACTION

we need to change the denaminators of the fractions into a common denominator.

5

PROCEED WITH THE SAME PROCEDURE AS ADDING AND SUBTRACTING SIMILAR FRACTIONS

We will follow the same procedure of similar fraction

6

Example no.1

 12+14=\frac{1}{2}+\frac{1}{4}=

  • find the common multiple of 2 and 4

  • 4= 2x2

  • 2=2x1

  • the LCD of 4and 2 is 4 as result of 2x2

  •   12 +14=4 + 4=\ \frac{1}{2}\ +\frac{1}{4}=\frac{ }{4}\ +\ \frac{ }{4}=

  •  12+14=24+14=34\frac{1}{2}+\frac{1}{4}=\frac{2}{4}+\frac{1}{4}=\frac{3}{4}

  •  34\frac{3}{4}  is the final answer

7

Example no.2

 23+14=\frac{2}{3}+\frac{1}{4}=

  • find the common multiple of 3 and 4

  • 3=3x1

  • 4=2x2

  • 3x2x2=12

  •  23+14=12+12\frac{2}{3}+\frac{1}{4}=\frac{ }{12}+\frac{ }{12}

  •  23+14=812+312=1112\frac{2}{3}+\frac{1}{4}=\frac{8}{12}+\frac{3}{12}=\frac{11}{12}

  •  1112\frac{11}{12}  is the final answer
