Sentence Pattern (S-V-DO)
In the predicate part of a simple sentence, the most important word is the verb.
If the verb is transitive, it will have objects. A noun or pronoun that directly receives the action of the verb is called the direct object (DO).
Example: The teacher told a story.
Example: Cecilia gave cookies.

Sentence Pattern (S-V-IO-DO)
A noun or pronoun that indirectly receives the action of the verb is called the indirect object (IO)
It tells to whom or for whom the action is done. In sentences with both an indirect object and a direct object, the indirect object always comes before the direct object.
