Circuits
Electricity is the flow of electric charges.
Charge is a property of matter and can be positive or negative.
Charges that move are most often electrons from an atom.
A circuit is a closed loop of conducting material that lets the charges flow through it.

Multiple Select
Which circuits below would work to light the bulb?
4
Circuit Connections
The wires in a circuit carry the electric current.
The circuit has to be complete to allow electricity to travel.
A circuit also needs something to provide a force to push the charge along the wires - this is what a battery does.
5
Circuit Symbols
Circuit symbols are used in circuit diagrams to show how a circuit is connected together.
Straight lines are used to show the wires.
6

Drawing Circuits
This circuit shows a battery, bulb and switch.
To draw a circuit you start with the symbols and then draw straight lines to connect them.
15
Open Ended
Why do you have to put batteries in the right way round in a remote?
16
Connecting Batteries
Batteries provide the force to push charge round the circuit.
They push the charge from the negative end and it returns to the positive end.
17
Multiple Select
What mistakes are there with the circuit he has drawn?
One of the batteries is the wrong way round
The wires to the motor aren't drawn with a ruler
One of the circuit symbols is wrong
There are small gaps in the circuit
The switch is in the wrong place
