WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

  • Phonolological awareness is a broad skill that involves identifying and manipulating units of oral language. These "units" include words, syllables, onsets and rhymes.

  • Phonemic awareness refers to the specific ability to focus on and manipulate individual sounds (phonemes) in spoken words
