2

Multiple Select

I can identify the 5 types of energy.

1

Mechanical

2

Electrical

3

Light

4

Thermal

5

Sound

3

Mechanical Energy

  • The energy of movement

4

Multiple Choice

Elianna received a new toy car. When she pushes the toy car across the floor it lights up and makes noise. What type of energy is she using to push the toy car?

1

Light energy

2

Electrical Energy

3

Sound Energy

4

Mechanical Energy

5

Multiple Choice

Coach Smith is planning activities for the year. Which of the following would be the best example of energy causing a change in motion?

1

a student holding a ball

2

a student kicking a ball

3

a student standing on the line

4

a student sitting on a number

6

Electrical Energy

  • A form of energy that is produced when electrons move from one place to another place

7

Multiple Choice

Which of the following is an example of electrical energy?

1

eraser rubbing against a paper

2

pinwheel moving in the wind

3

student jumping up and down

4

a lamp turning on

8

Light Energy

  • A from of energy that travels in a straight line

9

Multiple Choice

Which of the following is an example of light energy?

1

pencil, shoes, heater

2

tv, sun, fire

3

shirt, hat, button

10

Thermal Energy

  • The energy of moving particles in a substance; also called heat energy

11

Multiple Select

Check all the examples of thermal energy

1

fire

2

oven

3

toaster

4

sun

5

singing

12

Multiple Choice

A student was waiting at the bus stop in cold weather. They started rubbing their hands together to cause friction. By rubbing their hands together the student created

1

thermal energy

2

light energy

3

electrical energy

4

no energy

13

Sound Energy

  • A form of energy produced by vibrating objects.

14

Open Ended

List some examples of sound energy.

15

I can identify the colors of the light spectrum

  • Roy G Biv

  • Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet

16

I can explain that the color of an object is the result of light being reflected and absorbed.

  • A red truck is red because red light is being reflected while all the other colors are being absorbed.

  • A yellow banana is yellow because yellow is being reflected and all the other colors are being absorbed.

17

Multiple Choice

Mrs. San sees a red fire truck. She knows that the color red is being reflected while all of the other colors are being

1

shadow

2

absorbed

3

refracted

4

translucent

18

I can demonstrate the light can be reflected, refracted, and absorbed.

  • Light travels in a straight line

  • Light can be reflected, or bounced back

  • Light can be refracted or appear to bend when it passes through a medium

  • Light can be absorbed when it hits an item that blocks the light and creates a shadow.

19

Multiple Choice

Question image

When light passes through water the molecules slow it down and cause items to appear bent. This is an example of...

1

reflection

2

absorption

3

refraction

4

transparent

20

Multiple Choice

Question image

Mr. Jones points his flashlight at a mirror. The light then comes back and hits him in the eye. What happened to the light when it struck the mirror?

1

The light was refracted

2

The light was absorbed

3

The light was opaque

4

The light was reflected

21

Multiple Choice

When light is blocked it will be absorbed by the object and cause...

1

a shadow to form behind it

2

a reflection

3

a refraction

22

Transparent, Translucent, Opaque

  • Light will travel in a straight line until it strikes an object.

  • Some objects will allow all the light to pass through, others will allow some, and other objects will allow NO light to pass through.

23

Transparent

  • ALL light will pass through

  • Items are usually clear or see through.

  • Water, glass, clear plastic etc.

24

Translucent

  • Translucent items will allow some light to pass through.

  • The items are not usually clear and have a frosted tint

  • Paper, tissues, frosted glass etc.

25

Opaque

  • Opaque items do not allow light to pass through. NO LIGHT WILL PASS

  • Opaque items actually block the light, absorb it, and create a shadow behind the object.

  • Humans, wood, concrete, etc.

26

Multiple Choice

34

Observation V Inference

  • An observation is a statement made from one's five senses.

  • Your five senses include; sight, smell, taste, touch, and hear.

  • When you make an observation you use your five senses to make a true statement.

  • For example, while looking at the sky you might observe there are many black clouds in the sky. This is an observation.

  • You could then make an inference by using your observation to infer (guess) that it is about to rain.
