UNDERSTANDING DECIMALS

The tulips in the Tulip Garden at Srinagar has many rows of different coloured tulips. It is the largest tulip garden is Asia with over 100 varieties of tulips in different colours. The Maths model shows that red tulips have been planted over these two patches in the garden. Using fractions we can say that 1 and 6 tenths of the garden has been planted with red tulips. In decimals form this is 1.6. This is read as 1 and 6 tenths or one point six.

• 3 tenths is euale to 0.3

• 24 tenths is euale to 2.4

• 153 tenths is euale to 15.3

• 1608 tenths is euale to 160.8

• 3 hundredths is eual to 0.03

• 24 hundreths is euale to 0.24
