Correct Use of Pronoun Case
Subjective Case-is used most often but is also the correct case for predicate noun.
I, we, you, it/he/she and they
He and I were great friends.
We grew up together.
They lived next door.

Objective Case-primarily used for objects:direct objects,indirect objects,and objects of the preposition.
me,us,you,it,him,her and them
Elaine drove to the airport to meet us.
For him this is no problem.
Sue likes me.

Possessive Case is used to show ownership and other close relationships.It may appear in one of two forms.
my, our, your, its, his, her, their
My car broke down.
Her back is wet.
It was my choice to take an advanced class.
The more common form modifies nouns.(Dependent possessive pronouns)

Independent possessives-stands alone as a subject, predicate noun, or object.
mine,ours,yours,its,his,hers
The car parked outside is mine.
That last piece of pizza is yours.
Mine is the first jacket on the right.

Compound Constructions
The case you use depends on the function of the word in the sentence.
To decide whether you need to use a subject pronoun or an object pronoun, cross out the other pronoun or noun, and use the pronoun that sounds correct when it stands alone.
Jesse and I went to school.
My brother sat right between you and I.

Hint:To decide whether you are using the correct pronoun, ignore the noun and see whether the pronoun is correct on its own.
We writers enjoy writing fiction. (Not Us enjoy writing fiction.)
The teacher explained the lesson to us students. (Not explained the lesson to we.)

Appositive
Ignore an appositive when determining the case of a pronoun it renames.
The case of a pronoun within an appositive should match the case of the word that is renamed.

Examples:
The decision to close the pool was a setback for us swimmers.
My friend's parents gave their children, her sisters and her, a car to use for transportation.

Comparison Using then or As
Tip: Words are usually left out of sentences with comparisons. To choose the correct pronoun, complete the comparison by mentally adding the missing words. For instance, when the words in brackets are added to the following examples, it becomes easier to see what pronoun is needed:
Ted is as tall as I [am].
You gave a bigger piece of cake to Sylvie than [you gave to] me.
