John Lawson was born in Philidelphia in the year 1837 and also died in Philidelphia on the year of 1919. He served in the Navy Branch of the Union.

Lawson during the battle of the mobile bay was stationed above with six men while the waves were crashing against both of the forces during the big battle. When a shell came on the ship it killed all of the six men except Douglas where he was severely wounded in his leg.
