2

Can I write effectively to entertain?

  • In today's lesson we are going to complete the final draft of our own winter calligram.

  • Before writing the final draft check you have used your steps to success and phonics to spell.

3

Steps to success

  • Shape matches your poem

  • Effective word choices

  • Repeated phrase

  • Challenge: use alliteration

4

Writing a calligram

You will need:

- Paper

- A sharp pencil

- The first draft of your calligram

- Coloured pencils

- Rubber

- Shape template (optional)

5

If you would like your calligram to be included in the slideshow at the end of the week, please upload a photo to Google Classroom.

6

Step one:

  • Draw the outline of your shape using very faint lines.

  • Make sure your shape isn't so small you can't write around it, but not so big you don't have enough phrases.

  • You can draw one main picture or several little pictures.

7

Step two:

  • Check you have used all the steps to success and your phonics to spell words in your first draft.

  • Use a sharp pencil to write your phrases around your picture.

  • Keep your handwriting as small and neat as possible. You don't need to use cursive in calligrams.

8

Step three:

  • If your words aren't sitting on the line or your lines are too dark you might want to rub them out.

  • You could also go over the lines of the shapes using coloured pencils or colour your shape in.

  • Make sure you colour lightly so that we can still read your poem.
