What this lesson will cover:
How to communicate with others when the radio stops working.
Lamp signals.
Pyrotechnic signals.
Marshalling signals.

Lamp and pyrotechnic signals
When ATC cannot communicate with you via radio, they will still need to tell you what to do to keep you safe.
This is done through lamps or pyrotechnics (flares), from the ATC Tower.
The signals will either be green, red or white and will be steady (continuous) or flashing.

Red signals
Steady
In the air: Give way to other aircraft and continue circling.
On the ground: STOP.
Flashing
In the air: Total refusal of permission to land.
On the ground: Move clear of landing area.

Green signals
Steady
In the air: You may land.
On the ground: You may take off.
Flashing
In the air: Return for landing.
On the ground: Cleared to taxi.

White signals
Flashing
In the air: Land at this airfield after receiving steady green light.
On the ground: Return to starting point.
