In Aoshima, a small, remote island off the coast of Southern Japan, cats outnumber humans 10 to 1.

The cats were originally brought to the island to help control mice and bird infestation, but with no natural predators – and a dwindling supply of prey – the number of cats soon got out of hand.

The cats reproduce so quickly and so often that with no predators to decrease their population, an island packed full of cats was created.
