What is a thesis statement? (p. 11)

Let's look into it:

📌 A thesis statement is:

usually the final sentence in the introductory paragraph. It should clearly state the writer's position on the topic and explain what the essay will discuss. In argument essay, your thesis sentence should clearly state your point of view/opinion. 📌

Example thesis statements for the topic of fast fashion (p. 11):

  • Sentence 1: Fast fashion is made quickly and sold for low prices. <<<Not effective, because it only states info!!!!

  • Sentence 2: While fashionable clothing was once only an option for people who could pay a great deal of money to buy outfits, the fast fashion industry has made style accessible to everyone. <<<Effective because it expresses the opinion the writer will support in the essay with specific examples

A good thesis statement should include: a subject + a verb + your opinion on the topic at hand! (argue something)
