Global Scholars
WHAT WE DO
Through Global Scholars, students ages 10 to 13 communicate directly in e-classrooms with peers across the globe. This educational environment, enhanced by multimedia communication, creates opportunities for students to build important global and general learning competencies. The posts and projects of international peers are primary texts for them to learn about other cities, the common global topic they are studying, and the skills needed to solve a global problem. There are no fees to the schools.

WHERE WE WORK
In 2019-20, the Global Scholars program connected more than 17,000 students in 53 cities. That included schools in 16 U.S. cities and 37 international cities, with a reenrollment rate of 77 percent. Scroll down for map.

LIVE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Educators attend five live virtual professional development sessions each year, led by Global Cities staff. Educators connect with colleagues around the world to share and learn instructional approaches and digital tools to integrate into their classroom practice. Additionally, educators find support in the online Teachers’ Lounge discussion boards and curated library of online resources, as well as from ongoing guidance and feedback from our staff via phone, email, or videoconference.

EVIDENCE OF LEARNING
Multimedia projects invite Global Scholars to explore connections between each year’s global topic and their own cities. Students advance in digital literacy, language communication, and other key learning outcomes while showing us the world through their eyes—starting with a video project in Unit 1 to introduce themselves and their cities to global peers. They collaborate in digital classrooms, each with approximately 300 students from classes in 8 to 10 different cities.
