  • President Jackson ordered all money in the national bank to be removed and given to each state banks

  • The state banks took that money and loaned it out to people for building factories, buying land out west, and building roads, bridges, and canals

  • Many people could not pay back their loans to the banks and defaulted by not making their payments. Many banks closed as a result and the Panic of 1837 began

  • Jackson left office and his vice-president Martin Van Buren won the presidency and will have to deal with the panic.
