Using Context clues

You may find unfamiliar words as you complete banking or loan applications. Figure out the meaning of new words by looking for clues in surrounding words and sentences. This is called context. The context gives you basic clues about the meaning of the unfamiliar word.

They let me borrow money.


From the sentence, I can see that it has to do with a bank. Banks give or hold money. When my friends loan me something it is expected I give it back. So, I would think in this sentence loan means to let me borrow money.
