When to Use "Who"

  • "Who" takes the place of the subject in a sentence and is therefore completing an action.

  • You would use "who" to replace the pronoun "he".

When to Use "Whom"

  • "Whom" takes the place of the object in a sentence and should either receive the action or be used when following a preposition (to, by, for).

  • You would use "whom" to replace the pronoun "him".

When to Use "Which"

  • "Which" should be used to describe things that can be ommitted from the sentence.

  • When using "which", you should include commas to isolate the information.

  • "That" should be used to describe necessary information about things.

  • When using "that", there should be no comma.
