Angle Sum of a Triangle
The sum of the measures of the interior angles of a triangle is 180o.
<1 + <2 + <3 = 180
3
Find the missing angle.
In Δ MAY , if m<M = 72o and the m<Y = 74o
Give this a try! The work and answer are on the next slide.
4
So what is angle A?
Remember the sum of all three angles is 180.
m<A = 180 - (72 + 74)
m<A = 180 - 146
m<A = 34o
5
Here is another example. The measures of the angles of a ΔABC are in the ratio 1:4:5. What are the measures of the angles?
Let x = angle A
Then ......4x = angle B and 5x = angle C
Now we can make a equation! x + 4x + 5x = 180
10x = 180
x = 18
6
If x = we now can find all the angles!
m<A = x = 18
m<B = 4x = 4(18) = 72
m<C = 5x = 5(18) = 90
The measures of the angles are 18o, 72o, and 90o

Finding x
Remember the sum of the remote interior angles equals the exterior angle.
So........
63 + 86 = x
149 o = x
10
Finding x when it is a interior angle!
The sum of the remote interior angles equals the exterior angle.
x + 40 = 100
-40 from both sides
x = 60o
