12 Times Tables: Extending the Sequence Trick

I am learning to use what I know about properties of multiplication and place value to multiply numbers by 12.

Success Criteria

I can use the distributive property to multiply numbers within 15 by 12.

Yesterday, we used the distributive property to multiply by 12 in our regular times table.

We cut 12 up into two pieces, 10 and 2. We multiplied our factor by 10 and then added it to our factor multiplied by 2.

We can also use our 11 times table trick. (We add the two digits in 12 together and that is the filling of our sandwich. The bread is the 1 and the 2. 12 x 11= 132)
