Proteins and Traits
A protein is a substance that makes up much of an organism's structure and helps it to function.
The type and amounts of proteins an organism has help to determine its traits which are physical characteristics of individuals.
Eye color, hair color, and height are examples of traits.

If a protein changes shape, the function can change
This can change the traits that occur in an individual

Variation (differences) in the amount of protein in cells results in different traits.
For example, a protein called melanin can change traits such as eye color and skin color. If there is more melanin in eye cells, eye color will be darker.
