Short Answer/Essay Questions

Answers should always be in-depth

That means 2+ sentences describing the details of the question.

3

Example

  • Question: Describe the structure of DNA in detail. Be sure to include all parts of the DNA molecule.

  • Weak Answer: Double helix, adenine and guanine bond together.

  • Strong Answer: DNA is in the shape of a double helix. The monomer of a DNA molecule is a nucleotide that always consists of a ribose (sugar), phosphate group, and nitrogen base. The different nitrogen bases are Adenine, Thymine, Guanine, and Cytosine.

Relate DNA Replication to our Unit #5: Cell Division. How does DNA Replication tie into Mitosis? What are the end results of DNA replication and mitosis? Use the terms: Sister chromatids, nucleus and chromosomes in your answer.

9

Mitosis

  • DNA replication is Mitosis on an even more microscopic level.

  • Both take place in the nucleus.

  • DNA replication and Mitosis produce two identical sister chromatids.

  • The sister chromatids make up a chromosome.
