Obesity is where you're very overweight. It can put you at risk of serious health problems.

Adults are generally considered obese if they have a body mass index of 30 or above.

The main treatment for obesity is a reduced-calorie diet and an exercise plan. Less common treatments include weight loss medicines and surgery.

Obesity is usually caused by eating and drinking too much and moving too little.

Risk Assessment

Before you start any exercise programme, it is essential that a full risk assessment has been fully considered

Before session you must check the equipment that is to be used, and the facility is fit for purpose.

Aims of the Session

Success of a session has to be judged against a set of aims

The aims must be achievable, but they must not be too easy so that the participants are not challenged at all... if that happens, the individuals or team will fail to improve

Should also be a time constraint attached to the aims

Slide image

20

Objectives

Accompany the session’s aims .. and refer to how the aims will be achieved

Objectives will outline very specific goals, which may be short- ormedium-term goals

Example .. objective of a marathon runner may be to identify suitable training methods to improve muscular and cardiovascular endurance

If clients have to provide their own, this will have a financial implication and may prevent some people from taking part
