Missouri's Mighty Rivers

There are two rivers that we will learn about

Mississippi River

• 2.320 miles long-slightly shorter than the Missouri River

• forms Missouri's eastern border

• Separates Missouri from Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee

• St. Louis is a major port on the Mississippi River

Missouri River

• 2.341 miles long- from Montana to where it joins the Mississippi River near St. Louis

• Nicknamed "the Big Muddy" because of how murky and dark it is from picking up dirt and silt on its journey

• splits the state into two parts- forms the northwestern border of the state and flows eastward across the middle of Missour
