Why is literacy important in Social Studies?
"A strong emphasis must be placed on various types of literacy, from financial to technological, from media to
mathematical, from content to cultural. Literacy may be defined as the ability of an individual to use information to
function in society, to achieve goals, and to develop her or his knowledge and potential. Teachers emphasize certain
aspects of literacy over others, depending on the nature of the content and skills they want students to learn."

What is the Image Reveal strategy?
Students are shown part of an image and asked to write about what they see and think.
Slowly, the "bigger picture" is revealed.
An alternative is to reveal different bits and pieces of the image instead of zooming out.
