2

Use the same rules as Multiplying Integers

Dividing Integers with DIFFERENT signs
--> the answer will be negative!
 (+)÷() = \left(+\right)\div\left(-\right)\ =\ -
 positive÷negative=negativepositive\div negative=negative

Dividing Integers with the SAME sign
--> the answer will be positive
 (+)÷(+)=+\left(+\right)\div\left(+\right)=+
 ()÷()=+\left(-\right)\div\left(-\right)=+

3

Division can look like...

this -->  10÷2=5-10\div2=-5

or
this -->  102=5\frac{-10}{2}=-5

***they both mean "-10 divided by 2" (negative 10 divided by positive 2)
                      - the numbers have DIFFERENT signs
                      - so the answer is negative!

Fact Families with Integers

Multiplication and Division

- We will use what we learned about multiplying integers to now divide integers

- if you know a multiplication fact of integers, then you also know 2 division facts

Example: We know that
               3×5=15\ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ -3\times-5=15

Then we also know...
 15 ÷3=515\ \div-3=-5
and
 15÷5=315\div-5=-3
