Success Criteria

I can use the distributive property to multiply numbers within 15 by 15.

3

For all of our multiplication times tabls above 10, we've used the distributive property.

  • We have split every number into 10 + _

  • This has made it easier for us to multiply quicker

  • We also used a trick for the 11 times table, where we add the digits of the number together and then put this sum between the original two digits.

  • For example, 11 x 14 is 154 because 1+4=5, and we put 1 and 4 around it.

4

Today, we're finishing up our multiplication bootcamp.

We will focus on 15, so we will split 15 into 5 and 10 if we use the distributive property.

5

But before we start, I have a trick for you:

If you're multiplying 15 by a number greater than 10, multiply the digit in the ones place by 15 and then add it to 150.
