E --> I Spanish Stem- Changing Verbs:
Pedir, Seguir, Decir.
2
Reviewing what was learned: Regular Verbs.
Regular verbs are formed
by: The stem and the ending.
In Spanish there are three types of ending: AR, ER, IR.
HABLAR---> HABL (stem) AR (ending).
COMER---> COM (stem) ER (ending).
ESCRIBIR---> ESCRIB (stem) IR (ending).
When we conjugate a regular verb we leave the stem as it is and change the ending.

Reviewing: Stem Changing Verbs.
Irregular verbs change the stem when we conjugate them, for example, from E to IE
Pensar (To think\To plan) and is a stem- changing AR verb.
PENSAR ---> PENS (stem) AR (ending).
The E in the stem changes to an IE in all forms except nosotros and vosotros forms.
Ex: (pensar) Yo pienso...
5
E --> I Stem Changing Verbs (Pedir, Seguir, Decir).
If the stem has the vowel E, then we must change the stem from E to I when the infinitive verb is an IR ending verb.
PEDIR (To ask for).
SEGUIR (To continue; To follow).
DECIR (To say).
6
Pedir is an E--> I Stem Changing Verbs.
Pedir (To ask for).
(E to I), If the stem has the vowel e, then we must change the stem from e to i.
Ex: (Pedir) Ella pide ayuda al 911. She asks for help at 911.
7
Seguir is an E --> I Stem Changing Verb.
Seguir (To continue; to follow).
(E to I), If the stem has the vowel e, then we must change the stem from e to i.
Ex: (Seguir) Frank sigue visitando los museos. Frank continues to visit the museum.
8
Decir is an E --> I stem changing verb.
Decir (to say) is different from regular IR verbs.
Decir is irregular in its yo (I) form because it changes the ending from IR to GO.
Ex: (Decir) Yo digo que el cielo es azul. I say that the sky is blue.
It is similar to verb tener (to have) that in is yo form changes from ER to GO.
