Lesson Objective

• We are going to define what a "coin" is and the relationship to a dollar. 

•  We will observe unique features on each coin.

• You will write notes in your journal, as well as draw each coin.

• Once we are complete you will be able to identify each coin and its proper value.

Coin Vocabulary

• Circulating coin- a coin that is used in everyday life

• Denomination- the different values of money. Pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters.

• Mint- a place where coins are made.

• Mint mark- a small lettering on a coin telling where the coin was made in the US.

• Non- circulating coin- a coin that is not being used.

Money is counted in dollars and cents. One cent (¢) is equal to 1/100th of a dollar. In other words, each dollar is worth 100 cents.
