2

A prepositional phrase is a group of words that begins with a preposition and ends with a noun or pronoun. This noun or pronoun is called the object of the preposition.

  • Ex. The plane is flying (below the clouds).

  • Below is the preposition and clouds is the object of the preposition.

3

Prepositional phrases add description to sentences, but are usually not grammatically necessary. If the prepositional phrases are removed from the sentence, the sentence should remain complete.

  • Ex. He sat (on the chair).

  • Ex. Alice poured lemonade (for me).

4

Identify the prepositional phrase or phrases in each sentence.
