WHAT IS PART OF SPEECH
A part of speech is the role that a word plays in a sentence.
There are 8 main parts of speech.
Can you remember some of them?

Noun
A noun is the name of a person, place, thing or an idea.
Person: Daniel, Dufie, and Kwame
Place: London, Paris, and Dubai
Thing: pen, table, dress
Idea: love, grieve, friendship, patience
There are different types of nouns including: Proper Nouns, Improper Nouns, Concrete Nouns, Abstract Nouns, Compound Nouns, Collective nouns among others.

Steven was getting ready for school. He brushed his teeth and ate his breakfast. He got his bag ready, put his jacket on and shouted 'see you later!' to his mum as he headed out the door and walked to the bus stop.

Pronoun
Pronouns are words used to replace a noun. Without pronouns, spoken and written English would be very repetitive.
There are different types of pronouns. They include; I, me, you, they, us, he, she, it, mine, ours, yours, theirs, someone, somebody, who, whom, whose, etc.
Example
Thomas went to bed because Thomas was tired.
Thomas went to bed because he was tired.

Verb
A verb is an action or doing word.It shows what someone or something is doing. It also shows a state of being like am and was.
Examples: is, came, speak, jump, walk, was, eating, are, read, play, fight, sing etc.
Neena read her book in the library.
Annie swam without her arm bands.
Dad came home early yesterday.

Note that a verb has four main forms namely present tense, present continuous, past tense and past participle.
Example: The verb 'Drive'
Present = drive
Present contentious = driving
Past = drove
Past participle = driven
Can you think of some example? Share with the class.

Adjectives
Adjectives describe a noun. It modifies or gives more information about a noun or pronoun.
Examples: green, small, good, smooth, beautiful, helpful, long etc.
The cheese was rather smelly!
The pancakes were hot and delicious.
