REVIEW: SIMPLE TENSE

  • PAST SIMPLE: Describes something that happened in the past. Example: Kyle grabbed the falling vase.

  • PRESENT SIMPLE: Describes something that is happening now. Example: Ms. Wiedmar teaches us Language Arts.

  • FUTURE SIMPLE: Describes something that will happen in the future. Uses the helping verb "will" Example: I will go to the grocery after school.

  • Have, has, had to make the perfect tense!

  • Describes an action that is complete

  • Use the helping verbs to help determine if it is past, present, or future

REVIEW: PERFECT TENSE

  • PAST PERFECT: Describes an action that has already occured in the past before something else occured. Example: Johnny had already seen the movie before we went together.

  • PRESENT PERFECT: Describes an action that has already occured at some unspecified time. Example: Johnny has already seen that movie.

  • FUTURE PERFECT: Describes an action that will have occured by the time something happens in the future. Example: Johnny will have seen the movie by the time we go next month.

  • Describes an ongoing action

  • Uses helping verbs with the -ing form of the verb

REVIEW: PROGRESSIVE TENSE

  • PAST PROGRESSIVE: Describes an ongoing action that occured in the past. Example: I was playing baseball last summer.

  • PRESENT PROGRESSIVE: Describes an ongoing action occurring now. I am playing baseball.

  • FUTURE PROGRESSIVE: Describes an ongoing action that will occur in the future. I will be playing baseball next summer.
