1

It divides the parabola in half

2

x = b2ax\ =\ \frac{b}{2a} Use this to calculate it

3

x = b2ax\ =\ \frac{-b}{2a} Use this to calculate it

How do you find the vertex of a parabola?

5

Multiple Choice

Factor the following:

 x2+11x+24x^2+11x+24

1

 (x+6)(x+4)\left(x+6\right)\left(x+4\right)

2

 (x+5)(x+6)\left(x+5\right)\left(x+6\right)

3

 (x+3)(x+8)\left(x+3\right)\left(x+8\right)

6

Key Features of a Quadratic Function

  • Vertex

  • Axis of Symmetry x = b2ax\ =\ \frac{-b}{2a}

  • Minimum or Maximum Value

  • y - intercept (c-value)

  • x - intecepts (solutions, zeros, roots)

8

Graphing with intercept form (factored form)

 y =(x3)(x+2)y\ =\left(x-3\right)\left(x+2\right)

  • Identify the x-intercepts and plot

  • Find the axis of symmetry, (half way in between x - intercepts)

  • Plug in axis of symmetry for x into equation and solve for y to get the vertex

  • Multiply the binomial to get the y-intercept

  • Plot the y-intecept and reflect it

Graphing with intercept form (factored form)

 y =(x+2)(x+4)y\ =-\left(x+2\right)\left(x+4\right)

  • Identify the x-intercepts and plot

  • Find the axis of symmetry, (half way in between x - intercepts)

  • Plug in axis of symmetry for x into equation and solve for y to get the vertex

  • Multiply the binomial to get the y-intercept
