  • Definition- An idiom is a phrase or expression that is not meant to be taken literally, but is used to exaggerate a point.

  • Example- It's raining cats and dogs.

  • Definition: A comparison of two unlike things using the words "like" or "as".

  • Example: He slept like a log.

  • Definition: A huge exaggeration.

  • Example: I played Fortnite until my fingers fell off!

Alliteration

  • Definition- Repetition of consonant sounds in words that are close together. Similar to a tongue twister.

  • Example- Silly sally sold sea shells by the sea shore.

  • Definition- A comparison of two unlike things without using the words like or as. You are stating that one thing is the other thing.

  • Example- My class is a circus!

  • Definition- Giving non-human things human-like qualities.

  • Example- My keys grew legs and ran away!

  • Definition- A figure of speech where two contradictory things appear together (opposites)

  • Examples- Jumbo shrimp, deafening silence
