2

Surface area of a cube

  • Remember a cube is a 3-D shape that has 6 equal sides.

  • To find the surface area of a cube, we simply have to take the total (sum) of each side's surface.

  • The formula is 6s2 , where s equals one side.

4

Surface area of a rectangular Prism

A rectangular prism is a 3-D shape that has 6 sides. Those sides are 4 rectangles and 2 squares.

To find the total surface area, all we have to do is add the area of each side or use the formula below.

Formula: SA=2lw+2wh+2lh

Surface Area of a Triangular Prism

It is always good to find the area of each side and add to find the total surface area.

Formula: (hint: don't forget to use 1/2 for triangular base)

SA= 2(area of base) + rectangle area (LW) + rectangle area (LW) + rectangle area (LW)
