Roots

The roots of a plant have two jobs. They help anchor the plants into the ground so they don't fly away in the wind or wash away in the rain.


Another important job that roots do is to soak up water and nutrients from the soil and bring it up to the stem.

The stem has many jobs. One of the main jobs it does is to provide support and elevation for the leaves, flowers and fruits. It also transports fluids between the roots system and the shoot system.

Leaves

The main job of the leaves is produce food for the plant through the process of photosynthesis. Inside of the leaves, there are chlorophyll, little green blobs that absorb sunlight, water and carbon dioxide to create food called glucose, a type of sugar, as well as oxygen and water.
