Tomorrow is your math interim. You will have

  • Distributing

  • Combining like terms

  • Finding a percent

  • Finding a unit rate

3

Distribute is

  • 2 (4 + x)

  • You multiply the number outside the parenthesis with the numbers inside

  • So you do 2 x 4 = 8

  • Then 2 x X = 2x

  • You keep the addition sign

  • so your answer in 8 + 2x

4

Multiple Choice

What does distribute mean?

1

Multiply a number outside of the parentheses with the numbers inside

2

Add a number outside of the parentheses with the numbers inside

5

What does combine like terms mean?

  • Adding, subtracting, multiplying, or dividing the numbers or letters that are the same

  • So 4x + 8x can be combined

  • 4x + 8x + 12x

  • 3x + 1 / 4y can not be combined

  • 3x, 1, and 4y are all the same so you can't simplify the answer

6

Multiple Choice

Can you combine 3x + 5y + 4x

1

yes

2

no

7

Multiple Choice

Can you combine 4y - 9b?

1

yes

2

no

8

How would you solve: A store makes 17% of its profits from socks. If a store made $5,000 how much money is from socks

  • First you move the decimal over two times on the percent so 17% would be .17

  • Then you do .17 x $5,000 on your google calculator

  • What answer do you get?

9

Multiple Choice

If Kayden spent 50% of his time playing video games, how much time did he play video games in 70 minutes? Which equation is correct?

1

70 x 50

2

.50 x 70

3

70 / 50

10

Unit rate is finding how much one item costs.

  • If you bought 10 shirts for $500, how much does one shirt cost?

  • You use division to solve.

  • 500/ 10 = 50

11

Multiple Choice

What operation do you use to solve unit rate?

1

Add

2

Subtract

3

Multiply

4

Divide

12

Multiple Choice

If you bought 23 avocados for for $27.34, what is the unit rate? Which of the following is the equation you would use?

1

$27. 34 + 23 = A

2

$27. 34 x 23 = A

3

$27. 34 - 23 = A

4

$27. 34 / 23 = A
