Water cycle diagram video. 10 mins.

  • You need a piece of paper and pen / pencil, follow the video to complete the water cycle diagram.

  • If you do not have any equipment, write out each stage of the water cycle:

  • Describe the role the sun plays, how do clouds form, what happens when the clouds become too heavy, the 2 ways water reaches the sea.

The Water Cycle – Green Pen – EXAMPLE.

  • Describe what the sun does to the oceans in the water cycle

Sentence Starters: “the sun heats up the water in oceans” what will happen to the water?

  • In the chat put some ideas of how you would answer this question.

The Water Cycle – Green Pen – EXAMPLE.

  • Describe what the sun does to the oceans in the water cycle

Sentence Starters: “the sun heats up the water in oceans” what will happen to the water?

  • ANSWER: The sun heats up the water in oceans and that water becomes water vapour, which is warm, wet air. This warm air rises up in the air.

17

The Water Cycle – Green Pen – EXAMPLE.

  • Explain how evaporation happens

Sentence Starters: “evaporation is where liquid water becomes a gas”

Think about: how this happens, the role solar energy plays.

  • In the chat put some ideas of how you would answer this question.

18

The Water Cycle – Green Pen – EXAMPLE.

  • Explain how evaporation happens

Sentence Starters: “evaporation is where liquid water becomes a gas”

Think about: how this happens, the role solar energy plays.

  • ANSWER: Evaporation is where liquid water becomes a gas. Solar energy from the sun heats up the water in oceans, seas, lakes, and rivers, and that water becomes water vapour, which is warm, wet air. This warm air rises up in the air because warm air always rises.

19

The Water Cycle Questions. 10 mins.

  • On google classroom answer either the pink or the orange questions in full sentences.

  • SUPER CHALLENGE: Why is it important to learn about the water cycle?
