  • European Colonization (Scramble for Africa): In the late 1800s, European countries decided to divide up Africa so they could gain wealth by controlling resources.

  • Apartheid: segregation of the races in South Africa. People were divided into 4 groups. Non-whites had little to no rights. Nelson Mandela fought against Apartheid and eventually became the first Black president of South Africa.
