Effective punctuation is the best way of controlling the way your reader interprets your text.


If you use punctuation correctly you can control the pace of your story, create tension, and even make certain things sound slower or faster.

  • Encapsulate extra information

  • Before coordinating conjunctions or after dependent clauses (when our sentences starts with them)

  • CITY, STATE, COUNTRY

  • DAY, MONTH #, YEAR

  • When we have more than one adjective before a single noun

  • To separate names from the rest of the sentence when we're talking to a person directly
