Roblox Coding (you need Roblox Studio)
Hi! Today we will be learning about coding and some vocab

2
Vocabulary you need to know.
Variable - A placeholder for information in code.
String - A variable that can store whole sentences, written in quotations.
Loop- A set of code that repeats until told otherwise.
3
Obby
We will be making an obby today. If you don't know what an obby is, it's a word short for obstacle course. Obbies are very, very common on Roblox games, so it's important to know what it is. There are many types of obbies, from security lasers in jailbreak and lava pits in Pyramid.
4
Open Ended
Now you know what an obby is. If you played an obby before, please tell me what type of obby it is and how it works.
5
Now lets dive in into the project
Open Roblox Studio
In the upper left corner, click New.
Scroll until you see the template named Obby.
Click the template to open it.
6
Closing windows
When you first open up Studio, it’ll have some windows open which you don’t need. Close these so you have more room to work on your game. Close the Toolbox and tutorials window by clicking the × on that window. If you want to reopen a window you closed, go to the View tab and click on the name of the window you want to open.
7
Before we go any further, you need to know the controls
Arrow keys or W A S D - moving
Space bar - Jumping
Right click and drag or using th left and right arrow - moving the screen.
8
Here comes the fun part
Click the Play button in the top-left corner.
Play the obby for 3 minutes.
To stop playtesting, press the red Stop button.
9
Creating a New Project
Now that you know what an obby is, you can create your own.
To close the obby, In the upper left corner, click File > Close. If prompted to save, click No. Back on the New section, click the Baseplate template.
10
Saving games and finding files
Whenever you are working on a game, save every 10 minutes. That way if anything goes wrong, at least you haven’t lost much work. Once published, you can edit it from any computer.
1. Select File → Publish to Roblox to open the publishing window.
2. Enter a place name and an optional description.
3. When ready, click the Create button.
Studio will save a temporary backup of your work every so often. If for some reason you can’t find your file, go to:
File > Advanced > Recent Open your file and resave it someplace you’ll be able to find it.

Multiple Choice
What is an obby?
Bobbing the apple on Roblox
An Obstacle course
A story game
12
The basics
If you start building your obby above the grey baseplate, your player will just fall harmlessly onto the baseplate rather than dying when they miss their jump. That doesn’t exactly give your player the challenge you want them to have. To remove the baseplate, you’ll need to use the Explorer window.
The Explorer window is typically to the right of your workspace and lists all the objects within your game. You can use the Explorer to select and work with parts in your game, even if you can’t find them in the 3D view.
13
How to delete the baseplate
Click the arrow next to Workspace in the Explorer window.
Select Baseplate.
Press Delete on the keyboard.
14
Creating spawn locations
The first thing to do when creating a game is determine where players start. The SpawnLocation is where a player appears in the world at the start of the game or after falling off a platform. Without a SpawnLocation, the player might appear somewhere randomly and fall to their doom.
How to: In the Explorer window, hover over Workspace and click the circle button. Scroll down the drop-down list until you find SpawnLocation and click on it. The SpawnLocation will be created at the exact center of your camera view.
15
Focusing on the camera
If parts are too far away from the camera, they can be difficult to work with. Use the camera controls and hotkeys to get a better view of parts you are working with.
To focus the camera on the SpawnLocation:
Select SpawnLocation in the Explorer. Press F to focus the camera on the selected part.
16
Playtesting
Playtesting is the process of you or a peer playing a game to make sure everything works and figuring out how to make it even better. It’s a good idea to playtest your game whenever you make changes.
When you playtest:
Make sure your game works, particularly changes you just made. Look for areas that can be improved.
Playtesting:
Save your game. Remember to change the file name. Click the Play button.
