Let's Recap Some Basics...
Water Cycle
Effects of Temperature on Density
2
Poll
Which processes in the water cycle do you think are the most important when it comes to understanding weather? (You may select more than one answer)
Evaporation
Infiltration
Condensation
Precipitation
Runoff
3
We will be focusing on:
Evaporation
Condensation
Precipitation
4
Vocabulary Recap
Evaporation - liquid water heating up & becoming a gas form (water vapor)
Condensation - water vapor cooling & becoming liquid water droplets
Precipitation - any form of water that falls from the sky (solid or liquid)

Multiple Choice
What is density?
The amount of matter in an object
The amount of space an object takes up
The amount of matter in a specific volume (how tightly packed the molecules are)
7
Remember...
As temperature increases (gets warmer), molecules get more energy and move faster.
When they move faster, they can spread apart.
As molecules spread apart, they are not as tightly packed together, so they become less dense (the density decreases).
Less dense water or air RISES. More dense water or air SINKS.
8
Multiple Choice
During evaporation, is the water becoming more or less dense?
More dense
Less dense
The density stays the same
9
Multiple Choice
As we go higher up into Earth's atmosphere, is the temperature getting warmer, cooler, or staying the same?
Warmer
Cooler
Staying the same
10
The colder temperatures higher up in the atmosphere cause the water vapor to condense into tiny liquid water droplets.
This process is condensation.
11
Multiple Choice
During condensation, is the water becoming more or less dense?
More dense
Less dense
The density stays the same
