•  We need to line up the zero on the ruler with the edge of the object we want to measure. 

• In some cases, the zero on a ruler is at the very edge, but in others, it is not. Be sure to notice where zero is when you start to measure. 

WE RULE

• We are going to measure to the closest inch and the closest half-inch. Where are they located on the ruler?

What if the object is smaller than 1 inch?

• Does the paper clip measure closer to an inch or closer to a half-inch mark?

• What is the measure of the paper clip?
